Brunfelsia plowmaniana is a species of flowering plant of the nightshade family that is native to the cloud forests of the Bolivian and Argentinian Andes. It was first described in on the basis of systematic DNA barcoding of specimens from the genus Brunfelsia. Specimens belonging to the new species had previously been placed in the polymorphic species B. Etymology The species was named in honor of the American botanist Timothy Plowman who had worked on neotropical plants of ethnobotanic importance and provided the first and only comprehensive taxonomic treatments of the genus Brunfelsia.
It holds a population of the critically endangered northern muriqui, a primate. It holds the largest continuous remnant of Atlantic Forest in the region.
The advance of coffee plantations and pastures in the region is further fragmenting the forest and reducing its area. The protected area was established on 19 October and has an area of 12, hectares 31, acres. The park is on the Campos Gerais, a plateau that slopes gently down to the west. Damn, I haven’t written a review in forever. Seriously, Symmer am like 13 books behind or something. So, I am going backwards, reviewing the freshest ones first. This is my second Simone Elkeles book. I read Perfect Chemistry, and enjoyed it, but for some reason vcaation took me two years to pick up another Elkeles. I’m not sure if How to Ruin a Summer Vacation was the right one for me.
Young Adult books are supposedly marketed for teenagers, but I’m not so sure about that one. Just looking at m Damn, I haven’t written a review in forever. Just looking rlkeles my friends here on Goodreads, most of them are women who love YA just for the escape it provides from life.
Even as an honest-to-goodness teenager, I know very few of my peers actually read YA for fun. I am truly an si,one. Maybe not here on a book site for nerds, but in real life, definitely. Anyway, what was my point? To me, Amy was annoying and stereotypical as a shallow, overdramatic American teen girl.
How to Ruin a Summer Vacation (How to Ruin, #1) by Simone Elkeles
Mehbe to “older” readers of YA I’m not calling you guys old My God, my mother has my permission to beat me down with a hose if I ever acted that way. Don’t get me wrong, I am pretty over-dramatic, but I don’t assume I am getting drafted into the Israeli Army just because my father is taking me there on vacation. And she was so bitchy and moody and selfish and self-absorbed and lots of other whiney bad things! Anyway, besides my intense dislike of Amy, I will grudgingly admit, there were some funny parts, and I was grinning through a lot of it.
The romance was pretty heated towards the end, even though I cannot see the reason why anyone would want to kiss Amy apart from finally getting her to shut up.
It wasn’t a bad book. I learned a little bit about Israeli culture my public education failed me in that regard.
The star reduction was entirely because summe Amy. If you can stand her, there is a good chance you will love this book. View all 20 comments. My mom lived in the US for 20 years and moved to Israel because of my dad, therefore I read only english books and speak english better then I speak hebrew.
I started reading this book knowing it will be a fun read about a book that’s written from Americans perspective about Israel. About Israeli’s and American’s being together. While I was reading this book I understood that the Ok, before I start reviewing the book I have to say a couple of things a bout Israel. While I was reading this book I understood that the author didn’t really know many things about Israel. But when you write a book you need to make sure you have all the right facts.
So before I tell you what I thought about the book I have to clarify some things that bothered me throughout the book. Maya, Mia, Noa, Dana, Natalie I am 19, which means that I am a soldier. We, soldires, are not, I repeat, are NOT bodyguards or work in any security company.

When I started reading it I thought it will be horrible, but I instantly liked it and read it in one sitting. Amy was, sometimes, annoying and too much to handle. I liked that she grew throughout the book.
It took some time but I’m happy it happened. I can’t wait to read the second book and see what happens to Amy when she’s in the US. I hope Avi will be involved. Overall it was a fun read. I found myself laughing and smiling to myself most of the time. I really recommend this book. But again, I had to explain some stuff. View all 5 comments. She seems to immediately connect with her, worries about her health, but why? Because the older woman has her eyes? This is the basis of her beginning to change, I’d have liked to vacatoon in on more of their conversations. I’d have liked more of the Jewish traditions, the Seder, keeping Kosher, their beliefs. I’d have liked more of her Israeli family whom we barely got to know, exept for the cousin Amy refers to as Snotty and the toddler, Matan. ,y have liked some sense of her father’s relationship with the family.

These are considered the main active constituents[ ]. Studies have shown that hispidulin has a particularly beneficial effect upon the liver, though it is more effective when used in combination with the whole plant[ ].
Several novel plant chemicals called clerodane diterpenoids have also been identified and it has been shown that these had maximum effects against worms[ ].
This could possibly explain carqueja’s long history bacchzris use as an agent to expel intestinal worms[ ]. Several other trials have been carried out on the medicinal properties of carqueja.
These have supported the traditional uses of the plant to reduce stomach acidity, treat ulcers, reduce genistleloides and lower high blood pressure[ ].
Carqueja has also long been used in South America as a natural aid for diabetes, and several studies confirm its ability to lower blood gennistelloides levels[ ]. The plant’s antiviral activity has genisteloides been verified in research with water-extracts showing activity against Herpes simplex I and Vesicular stomatitis viruses at low dosages[ ]. It has also shown an in vitro inhibition of HIV virus replication in T-cells, which seems to be mainly due to the substance 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid which is found in the plant[ ].
The plant has genistelooides been used by the indigenous peoples of the rainforest to cure a wide range of common ailments[ ]. In modern herbal use it is valued primarily as genistelloifes tonic, bitter, febrifuge, and stomachic, with a particularly beneficial effect upon genistelloidse liver and digestive system. Differential Topology provides an elementary and intuitive introduction to the study of smooth manifolds. In the years since its first publication, Guillemin and Pollack’s book has become a standard text on the subject. It is a jewel of mathematical exposition, judiciously picking exactly the right mixture of detail and generality to display the richness within.
The text is mostly self-contained, requiring only undergraduate analysis and linear algebra.
By relying on a unifying idea–transversality–the authors are able to avoid the use of big machinery or ad hoc techniques to establish the main results. The book has a wealth of exercises of various types.

The exposition is concise but includes enough discussion to build some intuition. Easily comprehensible to someone who has had earlier courses in analysis, topology, and differential geometry, and even the latter is only helpful and not strictly required. The printing and binding are somewhat poor though, and some unconventional notation and definition are occasionally used.
The book is a great example of a horrible math text. There are several major flaws in it. Firstly, the book is written like a novel, and only makes sense if you think like the authors. Definitions, theorems and proofs are often mixed in paragraphs with a large amount of wishy-washy explanations, which makes the book useless if you are using it for reference.
The pollaci are often difficult to follow and cluttered, requiring one to dedicate a large amount of time to draw diagrams and try and follow the train of thought of the author.
I have wasted large amounts of time guilldmin to find some particular definition required for a simple problem because the definition was hidden in a paragraph of useless gibberish. Secondly, the book is full of errors, omitted assumptions and flaky proofs. Problems at the end of chapters will omit important details like what regularity one should assume for a function, if a manifold is compact, and other such things.
Some questions will completely ignore some special cases such as the dimension of a manifold being 1. Finally, the quality of content varies widely. Sometimes statements polkack proven in a very hand wavy way, and then there are problems where such hand wavy arguments would make a statement trivial.
On the other hand, sometimes explanations are very technical yet not rigorous.
The only way to read this in a sensible way is like reading a novel; from cover to cover, and it is difficult to follow most explanations unless you think in exactly the same way as an author.
The general consensus with my friends is that the book is horrible. I would hope that no one would have to read this book. It’s distracting when reading what I think is a very nice book. Good book but the print quality is not so good. One person found this helpful. I loved to study this book several years ago as an undegraduate. Now I have to teach those subjects, so I decided to buy a copy for myself.
I received the book, admired the beautiful hardcover, but when I opened it I was immediately shocked by the crude quality of the printing. The problem is that this is a poorly scanned version of the old edition which I took from the library to compare. I fear I’ll be dizzy if I start reading this; I guess that if I try to scan a page of the original with my home scanner and print it on a laser printer I’ll get a better result.
I’m very surprised that AMS published this. Now, for the first time in many years as a costumer, I’ll try to return this book to Amazon. Another reviewer Lucius Schoenbaum had similar complaints as me, but for some reason he gave a 5 star rating.
My single star refers not to the text itself, but to the quality of this printing and to the value of the purchase. From Detroit Top Contributor: We’re using this text right now for my differential topology class. Over all, I find it rather hard to learn from The definitions at times are sloppy and the over all feel from the book is simply too casual to use as a text.
If it were cheaper, I think it’d be a great way to acquaint oneself with the subject. It’s just not “text book” material.
I agree with the reviewer who is not a “higher mathematician”. Neither am I; in fact, I repeatedly found that both Milnor and Hirsch became remarkably clearer after reading the same material from this book. So I stuck to this book. Chapter 4 is particularly well-written, with a very incisive discussion of connections among geometry, algebra, and topology. I hope the publishers decide to republish this book. How hard can that be in the modern small-volume printing era?
